Featuring a distinctive plywood-skinned, oval-section streamlined fuselage, the Albatros D.V entered service in May 1917. However, starting in October 1917, it was largely replaced in production by the reinforced Albatros D.Va, which featured an improved upper wing and a revised aileron control system.
