Experiences in the Army will vary drastically, but if you are someone who seeks out opportunities, doesn’t hesitate to volunteer for new things and takes control over their career, there are tons of things you can do or resources/opportunities you can take advantage of. But it’s up to you… very seldom will someone push you in a different direction and oftentimes you will even experience push back from your chain of command if you want to step outside the specific unit and pursue something else.

I’ve always found it strange that the Army doesn’t test pull-ups—especially for combat arms. You’ll be tested on them at SFAS and other selection courses. It’s part of getting in. But once you’re in and taking the AFT, pull-ups aren’t included. So it’s a requirement to qualify, but not a requirement to maintain. For a job that demands climbing, scaling, and upper body control under load, that doesn’t really add up. Anyways, what do you think? Should they test pull ups in combat arms? | Infinite
