The figure of 8 test evaluates for and monitors post operative ankle swelling. The ankle is held in a neutral position at approximately 90°. A flexible tape measure is wrapped around the ankle and foot in a figure-of-eight pattern. The measurement is recorded and compared to the unaffected limb. A positive test is indicated when the measurement is greater in the affected limb. Diagnostic yield is not well described!
