Eurasian Collared Doves in our area......
Jul 11, 2011 · Myself and a few neighbors have noticed some rather large doves in the area this year. I would say they range pretty close in size to a pigeon, tan in color like a mourning dove. They have a distinctive growl or purr and are very skittish. I've been trying to snap a shot of the pair but I think there are more than two.

Aug 23, 2023 · I think collared doves taste pretty good. I've eaten a couple, my kids have eaten a couple, the dogs like to fetch them.... I've seen more MD's this year than before, but that isn't saying much, and I would honestly hesitate to shoot them, just in hopes that their numbers grow. Aug 27, 2014 · One thing our collection conspicuously lacks is a good sample of Eurasian Collared Doves from Washington that documents the ongoing early stages of this invasion. A series of these specimens at the museum will enable future comparative studies of Collared Doves' invasion of Washington and across North America.

Jun 9, 2010 · the collared doves you can buy at many pet shops the band tailed pigeons are really cool and making a comeback it seems... I saw a bunch in the last few weeks at the feeder down the road along with the mourning doves and a squirrel and some jays oh and a few chickens

Dec 30, 2013 · Actually they're called rock doves, or more commonly around here, barn pigeons. They are not native here and are not protected, just like starlings. And those Eurasian Collared Doves fall into that same "Invasive Species" category and are nearly as big as pigeons!
