MINNESOTA (TNND) — The beloved rescue dog of Minnesota state lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband was also killed on Saturday when a gunman showed up at their home dressed as a police officer and allegedly shot them.

Boelter claimed to have a doctorate of education, and said he spent extensive time in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa — where he was seen in videos apparently preaching on stage.

Authorities are investigating reports of "targeted shootings" in suburban Minneapolis in what Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said was an "ongoing situation." The shootings were in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, two neighboring cities about 10 miles from downtown Minneapolis, Walz said Saturday morning.
