UPMC closes Memorial Hospital to visitors in wake of hostage and shooting incident
UPMC announced this morning via a Facebook post that it has closed Memorial Hospital in West Manchester Township to visitors in the wake of a hostage incident Saturday that left one police officer dead, two injured and several staff members injured. The health care system did not say when visitors to patients would once again be welcome.

UPMC says the situation is “fluid” after a shooting at a York County hospital Saturday left at least one person dead. The hospital and a county spokesman said that the gunman has been killed after opening fire at UPMC Memorial in West Manchester Township.
State police troopers applied a tourniquet to the officer's leg after he had been injured, police chief wrote in a statement.
The hospital confirmed that all staff members of UPMC Memorial are medically stable and progressing in their recovery.
