Rutherford police Chief John R. Russo said Sunday all remaining parts of the structure were razed after being deemed a “total loss” by fire officials. Congregation leaders have since vowed to rebuild. A 10 a.m. service was planned Sunday on a corner outside the ruined synagogue.

The fire that enveloped a Rutherford synagogue Aug. 8 severely damaged a building that has served the area's Jewish community for over a century.
