Millions of Southern California residents are breathing unhealthy air due to a large wildfire in the Central Coast area. As of Monday morning, the Gifford Fire had scorched more than 65,000 acres in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties with only limited containment.

An air quality alert was issued for parts of Southern California because of the effects of the Canyon Fire, fueled by dry brush and extremely high temperatures.

The National Weather Service said the alert will be in effect until Sunday morning in the Santa Clarita Valley and Saturday night in parts of Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties.
