Concerns about conditions for detainees were heightened when one was rushed out of the detention center Monday in an ambulance.
Roughly 600 people are currently being detained at the migrant detention facility in South Florida known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” authorities told Local 10 News Wednesday.
Artificial light in a world-renowned “dark sky” preserve is just one of the environmental and human health concerns surrounding the facility.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has previously said there would be no impacts to vegetation and there would be no paving or permanent construction at the Everglades site.
