The New Mexico Supreme Court has struck down abortion restrictions by conservative cities and counties at the request of the state attorney general.

New Mexico law preempts local ordinances that restrict abortions within the borders of Lea and Roosevelt counties and the cities of Hobbs and Clovis, the state top court said.

The local laws were created following the U.S. Supreme Court decision to end the federal right to an abortion.

A train hit a vehicle in eastern New Mexico after the driver fled from police. Clovis police attempted a traffic stop in the area of Prince and McDonald Streets. The vehicle left the area through a field. Police said the vehicle was not pursued further.
