Typically SP/DIF connectors are either optical or coax (RCA) plugs. I've never seen one which is 3.5mm....that sounds like an analog out to me. In any case, I do know that there are jack plug to RCA ...
You have to use a VCR, or a cable box to tune the channel, and then output to RCA. AFAIK, that dongle is for digital audio.
