The UN has opened the door to Britain being sued over its historic contribution to climate change. In a significant legal opinion, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) said failure by countries to meet their climate obligations could, in specific cases, allow other states affected by climate change to sue them.
It marks the first time the International Court of Justice, the UN’s top court based in the Hague, has considered the climate crisis.
