After being banned from participating for decades​, LGBTQ+ groups were allowed to march on Sunday in the Staten Island St. Patrick's Day Parade.

LGBTQ+ groups marched for the first time at Staten Island's St. Patrick's Day Parade, a historic moment for inclusion.

The Staten Island parade has been the lone local anti-LGBTQ holdout for years. The Throggs Neck parade in The Bronx, for example, allowed organized members of the LGBTQ community to march under a banner starting in 2022, and Manhattan’s mammoth event began permitting them to participate down Fifth Avenue about seven years earlier.

Noreen Hansen is the Grand Marshal of the 2025 Staten Island St. Patrick's Day Parade. The aides to the Grand Marshal are Cynthia Donnelly, Diane Gruberger, Barbara Shields, and Brian Walsh. The inaugural businessman of the year is Jack LiGreci.

For the first time, the Pride Center of Staten Island held its own banner and joined the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Sunday marked an end to the 60-year ban on LGBTQ+ groups marching in Staten Island’s St.
