The first storm in a two-part series has made its way to Southern California before the main storm begins Thursday, increasing the danger of flash flooding.

Monahan says there will be periods of heavy rain throughout Wednesday and a flood watch remains in effect until Thursday morning. There is some risk for a strong storms or even some severe storms to develop over west Georgia late Wednesday night into early Thursday.

Some showers and storms are expected to develop by the middle of the afternoon in South Mississippi. These will develop well ahead of a cold front. Within these storms, there will be a risk for gusty winds and a few brief tornadoes. These storms may linger into the early evening.

WEEKEND: Another big round of rain and maybe some storms will arrive Saturday and linger into Saturday night. Another 1-3″ of rain is possible. Highs will be in the low 60s Saturday. It may end as a few snow showers, especially in the mountains with temperatures falling into the 30s Sunday. Accumulation is possible in the higher elevations.

When it comes to driving during heavy rain, here are some tips. One of the biggest pieces of advice is, "Turn around, don't drown." According to the first step is not to drive if people don't have to. However, if you have to get out in the rain, it recommends slowing down and never using cruise control in wet conditions.

We could have a few worries this week with our weather in the ArkLaTex. Heavy rain is likely on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday with isolated areas of flooding possible. Strong to severe storms will be possible for part of the area on Saturday.
