Aaron Glenn is ready to call it a comeback, too. But the New York Jets coach, who last played in the NFL in 2008, was inspired by quarterback Philip Rivers coming out of retirement to sign this week and possibly start Sunday for Indianapolis at Seattle.

Johnson is tied for third on the Jets in sacks with Jowon Briggs. Will McDonald IV (7.0) and Quincy Williams (3.5) have been more productive. Johnson does rank second in pressures (32), trailing McDonald by just one pressure (33) for the team lead. Johnson is signed through 2026 after the Jets exercised his fifth-year option.

The first-year head coach has stressed building a foundation for the franchise, which Johnson has overseen as the owner since 2000. During a 2-9 season that has extended the Jets' playoff drought to an NFL-leading 15 years that includes 10 straight losing records, staying optimistic about the future might be false hope to some.

Cook will become the 10th different quarterback to start a game for the Jets since the 2022 season began, joining a list that includes Taylor, Fields, Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Mike White, Joe Flacco, Chris Streveler, Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle. He spent his collegiate career at Missouri.
